Child Development Certificate - ECED & Family Support Vocational Certificate - Infant Family Studies Certificate
Certificates in Early Childhood are a stepping stone into the program. All courses taken toward an EC certificate will count towards an associate and/or bachelor degree.
Child Development Certificate
This certificate is designed for:
- Classroom Teachers (birth-five)
- Head Start/Early Head Start Teachers
There are four required courses:
- ECED 1110 Child Growth, Development and Learning (3)
- ECED 1115 Health, Safety, Nutrition (2)
- ECED 1130 Family & Community Collaboration (3)
- ECED 1125 Assessment of Children/Evaluation of Programs (3) OR ECED 1120 Guiding Young Children (3)
Complete the following requirements:
- Professional Resource File
- Family Opinion
- Questionnaire
- Observation
- Oral Interview
Early Childhood Education & Family Studies Vocational Certificate
This certificate is designed for:

Infant Family Studies Certificate
This certificate is designed for:
- Home Visitors
- Early Interventionists
- Early Head Start educators
- Child Care Infant-Toddler Teachers
- Family Child Care
There are five required courses including two practicums:
- ECED 2240/2241 Infant Toddler Growth & Development (Prenatal to 3)/Practicum
- ECED 2150/2151 Relationships & Reflective Practice in Infant Family Studies/Practicum
- ECED 2245 Effective Principles & Practices in Infant Family Studies
Students will apply for this certificate through New Mexico Department of Health (DOH) & Children Youth & Families Department (CYFD).
