Welcome to Western New Mexico University’s College of Education. While we have a long and distinguished reputation in the southwest for the preparation of educators as a pioneering teacher education since 1893, we are also focused on growing and increasing our impact on all aspects of education and service to adults and children across New Mexico, the United States, and the world. While we continue to offer high quality programs in teacher education, we also provide programs in bilingual education, counseling, educational leadership, health science education, instructional technology and design, reading and rehabilitation, with students coming to our programs from within New Mexico, the U.S. and the world.

These programs follow the guidelines set forth by the New Mexico Public Education department, the WNMU College of Education provides coursework and field experience opportunities for the student who wishes to pursue an alternative route to teaching licensure, while working full time as a classroom teacher.
